Well a few weeks ago in a freak storm that dropped over 7 inches and hour in our area my house got about an inch to an inch and a half in it.
This week we are having tile put into our place and I get to clean out my entire first floor of stuff or cover it so that the dust that will fly will not get into stuff. Our cats have to be moved into our bedroom for 2-3 days. Much joy- not.
Getting the tile is a good thing, but I hate moving all my stuff upstairs or into the garage (where it still should be covered since they will probably do the tile cutting there to be out of the sun. Getting tile done is not cheap but we are making do with it.
We were going to do it ourself but after seeign exactly what would be needed we realized we would not be able to do it in a reasonable ammount of time and either my wife or I would be dead by the end of it. (/wink)
Ill get some pics of the before and after for any who care ( right-like anyone does). It is currently just a concrete slab that echoes too loudly. We will definitly have to get a rug to dampen the sound in the living room.

Shall We Feign Surprise?
So, Nancy Pelosi was briefed in 2002 on the use of extraordinary interrogation procedures, including waterboarding. She has known since days before the first anniversary of 9/11. Considering her position on the congressional intelligence commitee, this is to be expected. My anger at the opposition to this war, and specifically the opposition to these tactics is that the most vocal are the most dishonest. Do the Democrats really expect America to believe that this whole fiasco is the sole responsibility of the previous administration, and that none of them knew or could have prevented these actions? If they were so blithely ignorant, and so ineffective, then why should they retain their seats? What is the level of incompetence that we should be expected to find acceptable from our elected officials?
I am not surprised that Pelosi has known this whole time, nor should anyone else. Her refusal to pursue the indictments her constintuency have demanded was proof enough of her complicity. I would take her opposition more seriously had it been voiced immediately, rather than only after her constituents protested.
Over the years my support for this war has waned, and certainly I disagree with many of the practices throughout. It is one thing to change one's mind over time, it is quite another to willingly comply and only when politically expedient to protest.

Resilience better than Sustainability.
Jamais Cascio over at Foreign Policy has an article up about the next big thing in Environmental/economic thinking. I think he is on to something good here. Its called Resilience.
I always scoffed at "Sustainability" in the "Green" thinking of the Environmental Movement. I found its restriction and sacrifices mostly unsustainable. With the exception being some of the "Green" Architecture I saw in the Big & Green exibit at National Building Museum in Washington DC. I found that the architects referred to in this exhibit were not actually about sustainability but ingenious use of their skill to make pleasing and efficient buildings. That they also used recycling of air/water or in one building generated enough power in the building to give back to the grid to achieve the awesome look and efficiency of these buildings was to me secondary to the fact that these architects were not moving backwards to be "Green" but forward; improving the technology and the comfort of thier clients.
Resiliance seems to just be smart. Build a system thyat lasts and when parts fail its fails graciously. Give it a read.

Only 18% Say UAW, Government Will Do Good Job Running GM, Chrysler
Rasmussen Reports™: The Most Comprehensive Public Opinion Data Anywhere
How can anyone really think putting Uniopns in charge of a company like GM would ever work. This is definitely putting the fox in charge of the Hen House.

The Wisdom of Poo. I am not worthy.
Protien Wisdom has a great look at Poo on the Swine Flu. Check it out.
Swine Flu Overblown?
Well it looks like there is no evidence of a sustained global spread of the N1H1 or as many like to call it the Swine Flu. The NY Times has a nice article about it here. This strain of the flu is actually weaker and less deadly than the one that is most prevalent this season.
well it really looks as if teh Media went hook line and sinker into overblown histeria and salivateingly waiting for mass death on this one. And they were wrong. This pandemic ( or almost pandemic) is not the rateing and circulating saving distaster they are looking for.
Health organizations need to be careful and make sure the dangers are anticipated, the media just went off thier rocker on this on.
Kane at Doombringer has a great Post about The Oak Ridge Boys covering "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes. Go over and check it out.
Its an awesome cover and in some ways I like it better than the original. They do have a larger band and so the sound is much fuller but they keep the eerie feel to the song.

Welcome to My Place
If you are reading this you are one of the select few!
Not sure if that would be a good thing to be or not to be one of the select.
The purpose of this place is to put my rambling interests and thoughts down for the whole world to see (why they would want to I do not know but I will make them). I will talk about my gameing some, inspired by Kane and what he is doing at Doombringer. Go there he and it is good.
I will spout my view on what is happening politically out there in the big scary world as I try to make sense of it.
I will spout on things in Entertainment but Kane does a much better job than I would ever dream of doing it. I am less deep and a bit more snaky.
So if you are still reading you are a glutton and shoudl just need this one last thin wafer....
Welcome!
